What to Expect from Your Physiotherapy Assessment

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSESSMENT

Your physiotherapist will take a comprehensive medical history and conduct a detailed physical assessment. If you are consulting our clinic for pelvic physiotherapy, with your consent, an internal pelvic examination will be conducted. Internal pelvic examinations assist our qualified pelvic therapists in determining the current state of the pelvic floor muscles and pelvic girdle joints and pinpointing the cause of your symptoms.

Each of your sessions is scheduled with a physiotherapist for one-on-one care. Manual (hands-on) therapy, internal and external techniques applied to the pelvic muscles and examinations requiring disrobing are all performed in private treatment rooms.

Based on the results of your assessment, your therapist will create a personalized treatment plan including a home exercise program. Each follow-up session will build on the previous session, progressively working towards your goals.

What to Wear

Your therapist will observe your movement patterns and monitor your ability to perform your exercises. The rule of thumb is to wear the same type of clothing that you prefer to exercise in, such as:

  • shorts, sweats or yoga pants
  • tank top or sports bra
  • comfortable shoes or sneakers

For pelvic physiotherapy, you will be asked to disrobe from the waist down, and you will be provided with appropriate draping.

What to Bring

  • Detailed medical forms
  • Surgical history
  • Recent relevant tests
  • Your Dr.’s referral – if required by your insurance company for reimbursement
